Abstract

I would love to, I'm in, awesome, I wanna go, yes, I will. Sementara itu, respons yang menunjukkan dispreferred ditampilkan dengan kata seperti: no, no thank, nope, nah, sorry, oh sorry I can't, no sorry. I will; yeah sure; awesome I wanna go; I'd be delighted to. I'm bringing beer; I had so much pizza today I am stuffed but I have to come to your party because of the marshmallow ice cream. Contoh respons yang menunjukkan dispreferred secara langsung adalah: nope too far away; no thanks, I just had some. I would love to but I don't drink coffee; it is too far to go and I am not allowed to go for stranger's home. The title of this thesis is "Invitation in English Dialogues: A Conversation Analysis". This study is analysing the response of invitation based on conversation analysis. Conversation analysis is an approach to the study of social interaction that focuses on practices of speaking that recur across a range of contexts and settings. The objectives of this research are to analyse what are preferred and dispreferred features displayed in responses to pre-invitation and to analyse in what way preferred and dispreferred features displayed in responses to pre-invitation. The writer used theories from Schegloff (1973, 1995, 2007), Levinson (1983), Richards & Schmidt (1983), and Yule (1996). The results of this research show two points: first, it shows that preferred features displayed in responses to pre-invitation are the words such as: yes, yes, yes for sure, yea, yeah, ya, absolutely, OK, I would love to, I'm in, awesome, I wanna go, yes, I will. While, dispreferred features displayed in responses to pre-invitation are no, no thank, nope, nah, sorry, oh sorry I can't, no sorry. Second, preferred and dispreferred features displayed in responses to pre-invitation by direct and indirect. The examples of preferred features in direct way are yes, I will; yeah sure; awesome I wanna go; I'd be delighted to. While, the examples of preferred features in indirect way are I'm bringing beer; I had so much pizza today I am stuffed but I have to come to your party because of the marshmallow ice cream. The examples of dispreferred features in direct way are nope too far away; no thanks, I just had some. While, the examples of dispreferred features in indirect way are I would love to but I don't drink coffee; it is too far to go and I am not allowed to go for stranger's home.
