    INTERPERSONAL METADISCOURSE IN HILLARY CLINTON AND DONALD TRUMP PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN SPEECHES: A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

    This thesis is entitled "Interpersonal Metadiscourse In Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Presidential Campaign Speeches: A Discourse Analysis". This research aims to find forms and functions of interpersonal Metadiscourse in Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Presidential Campaign Speeches. After finding the forms and functions of interpersonal metadiscourse, this research also aims to find how interpersonal metadiscourse build rational, credible and affective appeals or ethos, pathos, logos by Aristotle. The data for this research are obtained from six presidential campaign speeches. The main theory of interpersonal metadiscourse and the theory of ethos, pathos, logos taken from Hyland (2005). The result of the analysis showed that four categories of interpersonal metadiscourse were found and logos or rational appeals were used by Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump for developing, elaborating, sequencing, validating and make conclusion of their discourse.of their speeches.
