Socioeconomic Factors Affecting the decision for Treating Children with Diarrhea Medically or Non-medically in Indonesia

  • The objective of this research is to analyze the social and economic factors that might affect the decision to seek of medical treatment for children below five years old suffer from diarrhea episode within two weeks prior the interview. Data used taken from the Indonesian Demographic & Health Survey 2012 and processed with Stata 13. The result shows that among 2,505 children suffer from diarrhea disease, 1,556 of them received medical treatment. Logistic regression was conducted to see factors that affect decision for this healthcare-seeking. Strong evidence for factors that affected the decision to choose medical treatment which are children age, wealth, mother’s education, and mother’s age. Gender, sanitation factors, and the child is an only child were not significant.
