Abstract
This thesis entitles “The Morphological Process of Affixes in Sports Rubric in
The Telegraph Newspaper: A Study of Morphology”. This research analysis the
kinds of affixes and morphological process of affixes in sports rubric in The
Telegraph newspaper. The qualitative descriptive method is used in this study by
using the theory from Cresswel(2009). The data is collected from sports rubric in
The Telegraph newspaper. The theories that apply to support the thesis are theory
from Plag(2002) as a main theory and as supporting theories Fromkin (2007),
O’Grady (1993). The research of this study shows there is only one prefix that
found in derivation morphological process of prefixes, that is prefix re-. Those
prefixes have their own function to change the meaning or word class of the words,
and there are five derivation morphological process of suffixes, those
are –er, –ing, –ly, –less, –ous, –ful, -ion. In derivation, there are found prefixes
and suffixes that is changing the meaning or form of the word, but it is difference
with inflectional, that can not change the meaning or form of the word, but it gave
effect to grammatical. In inflection there is only suffixes and does not have prefix
that found, it can be said that the prefix does not give a grammatical effect. In
inflection, there are six suffixes that found, those are –s , –ed, –ing, –er, –est, –es,
with those are functions.
