The purpose of this review article is to illustrate the current state of development of bone graft materials and bone grafting techniques used for bone defect regeneration, as well as to understand more about bone healing. The focused question was“bone grafting in dentistry”. The searches were limited to articles including: bone graft materials, bone grafting techniques, bone healing, and bone graft incorporation. Basically there are 5 types of material : autograft, allograft, xenograft, alloplastic materials and osteoinductive materials. For the bone grafting techniques, there are several types as well , such as : socket preservative, onlay grafting, inlay grafting, ridge expansion, distraction osteogenesis and maxillary sinus lifting. Lastly, the best choice of bone grafting material is still the autogenous bone graft because it consists of osteoconducitve, osteoinductuve and osteogenic properties. Besides that, for the choice of the techniques of bone grafting and of graft material donor areas are evaluated primarily according to the degree of bone loss, surgical-prosthetic planning, the amount of bone grafts needed and general condition of the patient. Lastly, by having the knowledge about the mechanism of bone healing, it can help to increase the success rate of the bone grafting.alveolar bone graftingalveolar bone lossTidak ada keywordBone grafting for alveolar bone loss patients (literature review)
