Item THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN BELIEFS IN HEALTH BELIEF MODEL AND UTILIZATION OF VOLUNTARY COUNSELLING AND TESTING (VCT) SERVICES AMONG MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN (MSM) AT BANDUNG CITY(2016-07-27) ABDUL AZIZ; Sheizi Prista Sari; Aat SriatiMen who have Sex with Men (MSM) were HIV related high risk group. They did unsafe sexual anal intercourse. In order to prevent HIV transmission, MSM should know their HIV status first by undergo Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT). In spite of its important role in the prevention and control of HIV and AIDS, VCT service was being utilized poorly by MSM, particularly in Bandung city. Thus, the objective of this research was to identify the association between beliefs in Health Belief Model (HBM) and utilization of VCT services among MSM in Bandung city. A correlational descriptive study was conducted in this research. The sample consisted of 97 MSM selected using purposive sampling. Instrument which used was consisted of 35 item with validity score 0.301-0.773 and reliability score 0.897-0.904. The data were analyzed using chi-square test (α = 0.05). The study found that 95% MSM (97.94%) had a positive belief about VCT services. In utilization VCT sercives, approximately 62.9% MSM did not utilized it. Bivariate analysis showed that belief in HBM was not associated with MSMs willingness to VCT (p=0.528). Nevertheless, MSMs willingness to VCT was associated with perceived susceptibility (p=0.000) and perceived barriers (p=0.000). The implication of this study for the correctional institution in order to enhance a special assistance program for MSM in Bandung city with focusing to how susceptible they are toward HIV and to explore further about their barriers to utilized VCT services, so the instruction and motivation can be provided to minimize those feelings.
