KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE ON EARLY CHILDHOOD CARIES AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS (BATCH 2010) UNIVERSITAS PADJADJARAN

Abstract

The dentist is not always in a position to prevent Early Childhood Caries (ECC) because of not having the favorable time to make contact with the child in early childhood. Parents definitely seek medical practitioner or pediatricians every month or yearly for their children primary health care. Therefore, adequate knowledge and positive attitude among medical provider are extremely essential. Purpose of this study was to access the level of knowledge and level of attitude among medical students (batch 2010) on early childhood caries. A descriptive research was conducted to access the level of knowledge and attitude among medical students Universitas Padjadjaran. Hundred and twenty-one students from Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran participated as sample population by using simple random sampling technique. Knowledge and attitude on early childhood caries among medical student was measured by a questionnaire. The result shows that the knowledge percentage of medical students Universitas Padjadjaran is 70.25% and attitude level of medical students Universitas Padjadjaran is 84.30%. In conclusion, most of the medical students have a poor level of knowledge regarding early childhood caries. While the attitude levels of the medical students concerning early childhood caries are mostly in moderate level.
