DESCRIPTION OF MANDIBULAR ASYMMETRY IN RSGM ADULT PATIENTS WITH PANORAMIC RADIOGRAPH

Abstract

The mandibular asymmetry will influence esthetic of facial appearance. The aim of this research is to descripted the mandibular asymmetry in Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut UNPAD adult patients with using panoramic radiograph. This research is a simple descriptive research which the difference percentage of mandibular asymmetry between male and female and the mandibular length between right side and left side. Purposive sampling technique was used to determine the sample size in Radiology Department of RSGM from June until August of 2015. The data was analyzed by using asymmetry index and percentage. This study revealed that the higher percentage is mild asymmetry (male: 95% and female: 91.67%) followed by mandibular asymmetry (male: 5% and female: 8.33%) and complete symmetry (male and female: 0%). Other than that percentage of right side mandibular length longer than left side mandibular had 68.33%. In conclusion from the result can be seen that had mild asymmetry in between left and right side of mandible and right side of mandibular length will higher probability longer then left side of mandibular length. The result evidence that no linking between mandibular asymmetry with gender and ages.
