DESCRIPTION OF COMPLETE ROOT DEVELOPMENT OF MAXILLARY THIRD MOLARS BASED ON CHRONOLOGICAL AGE

Abstract

Dental development follows pattern hence is a good tool to evaluate one’s chronological age by using radiographic images. Third molars erupt the last and hence can used to indicate maturity. This tooth generally erupted at the age of 17-25 but the exact age when the root development is done is yet to be known. The aim of this research was to study the chronological age based on the root development of the third molars of the patient in RSGM Unpad. The method used is descriptive where the sample is collected from the panoramic radiorgraphs from radiology department of RSGM Unpad, patients age from 17-25 between the month of April - June 2016. Data will be categorized into 3 groups, according to the anatomy of root, and verified by supervisors before the final result is been tabulated and analyzed. For tooth 18, 60% of the female samples and 69% of the male samples were in category III. For tooth 28, 55% of the females samples and 77 of the male samples were in catergory III. Conclusion, most maxillary thid molars complete the root development in the age 23 and 25 in female for both maxillary third molars, age 22 in male.
