Abstract
ABSTRACT
The old denture must be
cleaned to maintain it function, but often the cleaning procedure takes risk to
change its dimensions. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of
the microwave cleaning on the dimensional changes of the heat cured acrylic
resin.
Heat cured acrylic resin
was used in this study in the shape of rod with a size of (65 x 10 x 2,5) mm. Total
number of specimens were 15, divided into 3 group. Group A was for 5 minutes
cleaning by microwave energy, group B for 7 minutes and group C for the control.
Five specimens been done for each group. The dimensional change was evaluated
with a Digital Micrometer from Mitutoyo Japan with precision of 0,001 mm. The
data analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey Test to
determine the significant difference among the tested group at p
The result shows that the average
dimensional change for group A was 0,385mm, group B was 0,535mm and group C
0,199mm. Statistically, there are significant differences between groups of
acrylic resin cleaned with microwave energy (5 and 7 minutes) and the control
group.
The conclusion of this
research is that the cleaning procedure of acrylic resin denture with microwave
energy for minimal 5 minutes could change its dimensions.
