Abstract
Apical root resorption is a common side effect of fixed orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this research is to describe the anterior maxillary apical root resorption based on treatment time and severity of malocclusion using the imaging in panoramic radiograph.
The observational simple descriptive research design study was done on 30 panoramic radiograph before and after treatment in Orthodontic Department of Dental Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Padjadjaran University using total sampling. Radiographic images of anterior maxillary apical root resorption were measured by the perpendicular distance between the insical edge and the root apex.
The result of this study is the longer the treatment time the higher the severity of malocclusion and apical root resoprtion.
The conclusion of this study deduced that the description of anterior maxillary apical root resorption increases with fixed orthodontic treatment time and severity of malocclusion.
