NUTRITIONAL STATUS IN ELDERLY BASED ON BODY MASS INDEX(BMI), WAIST CIRCUMFERENCE AND SKIN FOLD TEST(SFT)

Abstract

In Indonesia, the elderly population number is growing rapidly, following the increase in life expectancy from 67.8 years in the period of 2000 – 2005 to 73.6 years in the period of 2020 – 2025. Because of the rising number of geriatric patients and importance of care and cure for geriatric patients in the future, this research is carried out to know the distribution of nutritional status in elderly based on body mass index(BMI), waist circumference and skin fold test. A descriptive study have been conducted. The subjects are the 59 geriatric patients who satisfy inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study. This study was done at Geriatric Polyclinic, Internal Medicine Department of Rumah Sakit Dr. Hasan Sadikin, Bandung by measuring height and weight to get body mass index, waist circumference and triceps skin fold. A total of 59 subjects were collected. The distribution of underweight was 3.4% and overweight is 44.1%. The distribution of obesity I and obesity II was 6.8% and 3.4% respectively. The distribution of waist circumference above normal range was 81.4% with 13.6% for male and 67.8% for female. The distribution of triceps skin fold test above normal range was 5.1% with 1.7% for male and 3.4% for female. As a conclusion, this study showed distribution of nutritional status in elderly based on body mass index(BMI), waist circumference and skin fold test.
