Abstract
ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini berjudul “Representasi SBY Dalam Delapan Artikel The
Jakarta Post Terkait Isu Keharmonisan Umat Beragama†. Delapan artikel yang
digunakan dalam penelitian ini membahas tentang kekerasan dan diskriminasi yang
terjadi pada umat beragama minoritas di Indonesia, khususnya pada kasus
penyerangan Jamaah Ahmadiyah dan pelarangan GKI Yasmin serta peran SBY
sebagai pemimpin negara. Penelitian ini membahas representasi SBY sebagai
pemimpin dalam menangani masalah umat beragama dan kuasa The Jakarta Post
dalam merepresentasikan SBY melalui delapan artikelnya. Penelitian ini dijabarkan
menggunakan teori analisis wacana kritis Van Dijk sebagai teori utama.
Penjabarannya dilakukan melalui tataran makro dan mikro. Tataran makro digunakan
untuk menganalisis kuasa The Jakarta Post dan tataran mikro untuk menganalisis
representasi SBY. Hasil analisis menjelaskan bahwa The Jakarta Post memiliki kuasa
dalam merepresentasikan SBY secara negatif melalui akses yang dimilikinya. Hasil
analisis selanjutanya menjelaskan bahwa SBY direpresentasikan negatif dalam
bentuk negative other presentation melalui headlines, main events dan comments
serta level of description and degree completeness.
ABSTRACT
This research is entitled “Representation of SBY in Eight Articles of The Jakarta Post
Related to The Harmony of Religious Groups Issue†. The eight articles used in this
research discuss about violence and discrimination happened to minority religious
groups in Indonesia – specifically in attacking against the Ahmadiyah followers and
prohibiting of GKI Yasmin cases – and also the SBY’s role as a leader. This research
discusses about the representation of SBY as a leader in handling religious problems
and the power of The Jakarta Post in representing SBY towards its eight articles. The
research is elaborated through critical discourse analysis by Van Dijk as the grand
theory. The data is analysed through macro and micro levels. The macro level is used
to analyse the power of The Jakarta Post and the micro level is used to analyse the
representation of SBY. The result explains that The Jakarta Post has a power to make
a negative representation of SBY based on its access. The further analysis explains
that SBY is represented negatively by The Jakarta Post in the form of negative other
presentation through headlines, main events, comments and level of description and
degree completeness.
