| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRAK Skripsi ini membahas propaganda melalui representasi terhadap ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ dalam artikel Pamela Geller No 9/11 Mosque! Objek penelitian yang digunakan adalah sebuah artikel yang telah dipilih dari 15 artikel yang dituliskan oleh Pamela Geller. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis Teun A. Van Dijk. Selain teori analisis wacana kritis, penelitian ini juga menggunakan teori propaganda, teori manipulasi, teori representasi, dan teori kognisi sosial (pengetahuan, sikap, dan ideologi). Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah bahwa (1) Pamela Geller melakukan propaganda dengan menggunakan lima teknik propaganda, yaitu name calling, glittering generality, testimonial, plain folk, dan card stacking. Pada tiap-tiap teknik propaganda tersebut terdapat manipulasi yang dilakukan oleh Geller dengan menggunakan strategi negative-other presentation dan positive-self presentation. Strategi negative-other presentation ditemukan pada teknik propaganda name calling, testimonial, plain folk dan card stacking, sedangkan strategi positive-self presentation ditemukan pada teknik glittering generality dan plain folk; (2) Setiap teknik propaganda memiliki dampak yang negatif terhadap representasi ‘Ground Zero Mosque’, hal ini sejalan dengan tujuan Geller untuk menentang ‘Ground Zero Mosque’, oleh karena itulah melalui representasi yang negatif terhadap ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ target propaganda digiring untuk fokus terhadap sisi buruk ‘Ground Zero Mosque’; (3) Propaganda, manipulasi dan representasi ini dipengaruhi oleh kognisi sosial Geller. Di dalam penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa pengetahuan dan sikap Geller cenderung bersifat negatif terhadap Islam dan Muslim. Adapun pengetahuan dan sikap ini terkait dengan ideologi Geller. Setelah dilakukan penganalisisan terhadap ideologi Geller maka ditemukan bahwa ideologi yang dimiliki oleh Geller adalah Islamophobia. Oleh karena itu, berdasarkan ideologi inilah wacana propaganda No 9/11 Mosque! muncul. ABSTRACT This thesis discusses propaganda through representation of „Ground Zero Mosque‟ in Pamela Geller‟s article entitled “No 9/11 Mosque!†. The object used in this research is an article chosen from 15 articles written by Pamela Geller. This research is a descriptive-qualitative research using Teun A. Van Dijk‟s critical discourse analysis method. In addition to critical discourse analysis theory, this research also uses theory of manipulation, theory of representation, and theory of social cognition (knowledge, attitude, and ideology). The result of this research is that (1) Pamela Geller did propaganda with five propaganda techniques; they are name calling, glittering generality, testimonial, plain folk, and card stacking. In each technique, there is manipulation done by positive self-presentation and negative other-presentation strategy.The strategy of negative other-presentation is found in name calling, testimonial, plain folk and card stacking technique, while the strategy of positive self-presentation is found both in glittering generality and plain folk technique; (2) Each propaganda technique has negative impact to the representation of „Ground Zero Mosque‟, it is in line with Geller‟s purpose to oppose „Ground Zero Mosque‟, hence through negative representation of„Ground Zero Mosque‟, propaganda target is directed to focus on negative side of „Ground Zero Mosque‟; (3)The propaganda, manipulation and representation are influenced by Geller‟s social cognition.In this research, it is found that knowledge and attitude of Geller tend to be negative to Islam and Muslim.This knowledge and attitude are connected to Geller‟s ideology. After analyzing Geller‟s ideology, it is found that Geller‟s ideology is Islamophobia.Hence based on this ideology, that‟s why the propaganda discourse entitled “No 9/11 Mosque!†emerged. | |
