PENGARUH SUHU PENYIMPANAN PADA STABILITAS MIKROBIOLOGIS SUSPENSI AMOXICILLIN TERHADAP Streptococcus pyogenes

Abstract

Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is widely used to treat infections. Amoxicillin is used for respiratory tract infection that one of them is caused by S. pyogenes. Amoxicillin’s suspension have a short shelf life, then to determine its effectivity in bacteria during storage periode, it is necessary to test its microbiologicall stability. The purposed of this research is to determine the influence of storage temperature on microbiological stability of amoxicillin suspension to S. pyogenes. This research used laboratory experimental method that included antibiotic activity of suspension amoxicillin after reconstituted in room temperature and refrigerator temperature on zero, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, and the 14th days after reconstitution. This testing activity also used the disc diffusion method. The concentration of amoxicillin suspension was 125 mg/5 ml, based on stated on the label, and tested on S. pyogenes. The data obtained through observation of inhibition zone diameter and analyzed with regression method. The results of this research based on one-way t-test with 95% confidence level showed that amoxicillin suspension stored at refrigerator temperature was relatively more stable than amoxicillin suspension stored at room temperature, based on antibacterial activity against S. pyogenes.
